deHavilland Electric Amplifier Company

We were first introduced to deHavilland a little over four years ago. In a quest for a moderate priced preamplifier we came across a review in Bound For Sound of the UltraVerve. At less then 50% the price of other well known tube amplifiers we thought “let's give it a try.” Well we plugged it into our system and what an eye opener that was. Much more transparent then the eight other preamplifiers we had in house. More relax in its presentation. It doesn't force the issue. As the UltraVerve broke in we discovered what it was all about. Our whole musical experience changed. Now we play music with the expectation that it will sound very much like a live concert, right in our own home.

Well that was over four years ago and our love affair with all the deHavilland Electronics is still going strong. No other equipment at, any price, has allowed me to get so involved in the music for any length of time. You will experience absolutely no listener fatigue. Do not be put off by the low prices. If your speakers are capable of “making music come alive,” they will with deHavilland Electronics. (As a side note, the deHavilland GM-70 tube mono blocks retail for $10,000. Compare that to the new Lamm ML3 Amplifiers using the same GM-70 tubes, that retail for $139,290 a pair.). The GM-70 is the tube of the future and you will see more amplifiers using it. This all tells me that Kara Chaffee has had it right for over four years.

You can enjoy the beauty of the same GM-70 tube sound and save $129,290!!!!!!!!

The deHavilland GM70 - Getting it right. That is what the GM-70 is all about. The joy and the emotion of the music. Without that why listen? No disappointment here, with the most output of any single ended amp with a single output tube. The purity of one output tube with the power of many, 50 watts of "raging" pure class A single-ended triode. The GM-70 tube is a Russian tank tube, no light weight fragile little thing. These mono blocks sound nothing at all like a typical 300B or any other single ended amplifiers you might have heard. They seemingly have the power of a much more powerful amplifier. We have compared them to the Antique Sound Labs 200 watt per channel Hurricanes that HP raves about. We have compared them to the 140 watt Atma-Sphere MA-1's. Retail is $10,000

The deHavilland Aries 845-G - The Aries 845-G is a Single Ended Directly Heated Triode amplifier. The Aries delivers 30 Watts RMS into an 8 ohm load and 36 Watts into a 4 ohm load. These mono blocks have all the resolving power of the low powered 300B's and 2A3's yet with power to spare and a much bigger tonal quality, plus a more authoritative presentation and bigger dynamics are what you can expect to hear. This amplifier will astonish you. Retail is $8,595

The deHavilland Ios Stereo 845 - The newest amplifier from deHavilland is the Ios Stereo 845. This is a great amplifier for great sound quality, budget and for convenience. This amp has all the great sonic attributes of the Aries 845 G, 100% pure Class A, single ended triode with directly heated 845 triode tubes and zero negative feedback. You get the simplicity of a stereo amplifier with savings over the mono blocks. In addition this amplifier is available with three inputs and a Noble Volume Control or Goldpoint Stepped Attenuator. In other words just plug in your CD player, phono preamp or DVD and you have music, great music. Retail is $6,595

The deHavilland Preamplifiers. “The best design should be the simplest design to allow the listen to hear the magic of the tubes.”

The deHavilland Mercury 3 Preamplifier - Designed around the georgeous sounding Type 85 Triode Tube with those "oh so cool" grid caps, this sweet heart is a giant killer. Super Dynamics Huge Full Bodied Soundstage and best of all "breathe taking realism." Retail price is $3,995. Add $500 for remote control.

The deHavilland Ultra Verve 2 Preamplifier - This very simple and totally involving preamplifier uses the large 6SN7 Octal Tube with the 5AW4 Octal Tube Rectifier. Zero negative feedback. All point to point wiring and like the Mercury it has a huge sound stage. Available with several different volume controls so it can fit even a restrictive budget. Don't worry about the sound quality however Dick Olsher said that this is his current choice in line amplification, and he has heard a lot of preamplifiers. Retail price is $2,495. Add $500 for remote control.
